It often seems difficult to know how much a new garden will cost. So I'm here to guide you and provide transparency...
An outdoor space that offers many months and years of pleasure is worth considering as a ‘big ticket’ investment.
That means that even for smaller urban gardens (say up to 100m2) just renovating your planted areas alone, might cost the same as a family holiday - to include all the planning, design and plants, plus the days of physical clearance and planting.
A complete garden redesign + build is a significant home-improvement project. Consider that your garden is often the biggest ‘room’ in your house; whatever the design it should endure at least a decade or two of our British climate, so you need to think in terms equivalent to a family car or home extension. Generally speaking a 'small budget' garden build is considered to be under £30,000. Of course much can be achieved with less, if budget is focused on doing two or three things well. Equally gardens can be built in stages to spread the cost over time. The key is to have a clear plan at the outset and stick to it.
