THE 6 STEPS TO YOUR NEW GARDEN

Your garden transformation begins with our unique 'Garden Wish List' questionnaire - it will help you clarify your ideal outdoor space and define what you want to go in it.

The 'designing' begins by looking at the spaces for people; prioritising the functions your garden needs, then devising the right layout with good proportions. We furnish the practical areas using materials that suit your style, property and budget. Finally we compose the planted spaces to bring the garden to life; giving it softness, texture, personality and drama.

Step 1.

Your Wish List + Site Survey + Pre-checks

We begin by distilling your ideal garden; this involves a lot of questions from me, but most importantly I listen to your wants and needs, to create your unique 'Garden Wish List'.

A detailed garden survey assesses your plot, taking measurements in 3 dimensions for accurate plans and an on-budget build. Often we use a specialist surveyor for larger gardens or those with varying levels.

Preliminary checks of site access, local planning requirements, nearby underground services and other factors that affect your property are also crucial.

Step 2.

Garden Style + Concept Designs

Next we define the 'look' of the garden with a gallery of images. We focus on materials and features you'd like to include, finding those things that will make your space personal and special.

We also look at 'sketch' ideas or Concepts - plans and visuals that begin to translate the things you want from your Wish List and position into your new garden layout.

Step 3.

Masterplan + Garden Visuals

Once you're happy with the Sketch Design for your garden we refine it, going into mm accurate detail and finalising materials and finishes, to produce your Garden Masterplan.

Your Masterplan, along with any supporting visuals, confirms all the elements of your new garden and is the point from which we can begin to cost-up the construction.

Step 4.

Technical Drawings & Costing

Garden Specifications and Garden Budget Costs

To effectively define and quality-check the build, everything from paving, drainage and construction methods to the correct preparation to lay new lawns, establish new trees or sow wildflower areas should be listed in a 'Works & Specification' document.

Since almost every outdoor space is unique, bespoke-made features such as seating, storage, lighting or pergolas can sometimes require additional technical drawings to ensure correct construction. We can discuss what might be required with contractors at the time of quoting.

Step 5.

Planting Plans + Specification

Once the size and shape of the garden's hard and soft landscaping areas are agreed, we can begin to bring it all to life with the planting.

We create the planting palette together using gallery images. The colour, form, texture, seasonal interest and personality of your garden are all brought out in the planting. At this stage we not only define the plants but can also check nursery stocks, provide wholesale quotes, plan delivery logistics and can provide specialist planting teams.

Step 6.

Garden Build + Project Monitoring

Once the project is underway I can be on hand to visit the site regularly and support your relationship with your contractor throughout the build phase, as much or as little as your budget allows.

Smaller garden projects normally take 4 - 12 weeks to complete. Larger gardens may take 2 to 4 months and if required plans can be approached in stages to allow for phased construction.
